Actors, "Shades of Poe" 2017

To reach busy actors overlapping the end of summer stock with the beginnings of Fringe, we are now accepting video submissions for "Shades of Poe". To submit a video, please follow the instructions below.

If we are interested in seeing more of you, we will reach out to coordinate a date and time for an in-person audition.

Deadline for video submissions is August 13th at 9:00pm.

Available Roles

At this time, we are seeking actors to perform the following pieces:

  • "The Raven"- Male, age 20+, will also play Edgar Allan Poe

  • "Ligeia"- Male, age 20+, ethnicity flexible

  • "The Black Cat"- Male, age 20+, ethnicity flexible

The sides are attached to this page below in a .doc document.

  • Please choose 2 pieces to read for us. They do not have to be memorized, but try to avoid having your head buried in your paper.

  • Both sides can be read in the same video.

  • Record yourself performing these sides, then upload your video to a video sharing site (i.e., YouTube)

  • A phone or webcam is sufficient so long as we can see and hear you clearly. You will not be judged by the production quality of your video!

  • We prefer actors who stand and move during their reads, so we can get an idea of how you move.

  • We are looking for dramatic presentations (not readings!)- a good reference would be Vincent Price's "An Evening of Edgar Allan Poe" (available on YouTube).

Once you have your video ready and uploaded, please email the link for the video, and a headshot & resume for our files to info@fracturedmirrorproductions.com. If we like what we see, we'll be in touch to set up an in-person interview during the month of August.

Please do not attach your video to the email!

Please upload your video to a video sharing site such as YouTube and send us the link.

The deadline for video submissions is August 13th at 9:00pm.

Show Information

"Shades of Poe" has been produced at the Collings-Knight Homestead annually since 2009. Every year we make small changes to the show to keep it fresh: changes in casting, which pieces are presented, technical upgrades, etc. Audience members come year after year, many have made it their Halloween tradition.

This is NOT a haunted house! We are serious about maintaining the integrity of Poe's works.

The show is a series of vignettes, in a period space, in period costume. Edgar Allan Poe takes the audience from room to room, seeing a different complete piece in each room. Each piece ranges from 8 to 12 minutes in length, and all pieces are monologues.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are one night per week for actors, from 6-9. We rehearse 2 or 3 pieces each night. Each actor is responsible for being present for 2 time slots on his or her day- one to work on the piece with the director, and the other to work independently in their space. Exact dates and times will be worked out once the show is cast. As all rehearsals are "one on one" there is some flexibility.

Pay

Pay for the run is $300, plus a $50 travel stipend if coming over a bridge, to help offset bridge tolls. Actors hired on this production are independent contractors. As the total pay for this performance is below the required threshold, we do not issue 1099 forms.

Performance Venue: The Collings-Knight Homestead; 500 Collings Ave, Collingswood, NJ 08107

Getting to the venue:

Collingswood is accessible easily from either the Walt Whitman or Ben Franklin Bridges. The house itself is located on the corner of Collings Ave and Browning Rd. Browning Rd is not marked. The house is a 3-story brick farmhouse with a yellow 2-story shed on the side. There is a white sign out front with the house's name on it. It stands on the same block as the large tan apartment high rises, catty-corner from the park.

The house is a 3/4 mile walk from the PATCO high speed line (Collingswood Station). It is also 2 blocks from the NJ Transit 403 Bus stop (Collings Ave & White Horse Pike)
